What Joanna Gaines Eats to Stay Healthy

A quick look at Joanna Gaines' instagram reveals plenty of nutritious hits: A pile of freshly-picked tomatoes, strawberries from the garden, watermelon in the yard, a bowl of colorful vegetables. But there's also plenty of decadence — cookies, biscuits, and more biscuits to give a few examples.
With a busy schedule and a newborn, how does Joanna keep it all together? Here's her rule of thumb: “For the most part I just try to eat a lot of protein during the day and then not too many carbs or I will crash at and not make it,” Gaines told Health as reported by Taste of Home. “So, I think just drinking a lot of water and being conscious of what I’m putting in my body and being conscious of what I’m doing to relieve stress, like walking and exercising, trying to find that balance.”

For her protein fix, Gaines explained in the Health interview that she keeps protein bars or trail mix on-hand when she leaves home for the day. She also will regularly enjoy a banana or orange for a healthy snack. But when it comes to whipping up a batch of cinnamon rolls or chocolate chip cookies, she doesn't shy away from treating herself: “Typically with sweets, I go all out,” she said. “If you’re gonna make the cake, just make the cake.”
Or the mac and cheese and brownie pie. Are we right?
